Tower Theater
The Tower Theater is Little Havana's beloved landmark: a 1926 movie palace on Calle Ocho that became the cultural home of the Cuban exile community, and today hosts the Miami Film Festival and year-round cinema.
We love the Tower because it holds the whole story: glamour, exile, and rebirth, under one marquee.
The story
Opened in 1926 as a grand movie house, the Tower became something more after 1959: the gathering place of the Cuban exile community, screening Spanish-language films and hosting the events of a community building a new home. Its marquee is one of the most photographed in Miami.
Today, operated as a cultural cinema, it anchors the Miami Film Festival's GEMS edition and screens films year-round.
The vibe
The Tower feels like a time machine with excellent programming: the restored marquee glowing over Calle Ocho, the lobby's Deco bones, audiences that treat cinema as a community event. During the festival, the sidewalk outside becomes a red carpet with a neighborhood soul.
It is the rare landmark that works as hard as it photographs.
