Pérez Art Museum Miami
PAMM is Miami's museum of modern and contemporary art, and one of the most beautiful museum buildings in America. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, it hangs over Biscayne Bay in Museum Park, all hanging gardens and hurricane-resistant glass, with the city skyline as its backdrop.
We come for the art, and stay for the terrace: the museum's view of the bay at sunset is itself an exhibition.
The story
The museum grew out of the Center for the Fine Arts and reopened in its landmark bayfront building in 2013, renamed for developer Jorge M. Pérez after his major gift. The Herzog & de Meuron design, with its hanging gardens by Patrick Blanc, made it an instant architectural icon.
PAMM's collection focuses on 20th- and 21st-century art, with a strong commitment to artists of the Americas and the African diaspora: the art of the hemisphere Miami belongs to.
The vibe
PAMM feels like Miami thinking out loud: bold, diverse, sometimes provocative, always with the bay glittering through the glass. The galleries mix international names with Caribbean and Latin American artists you won't see everywhere.
Thursday nights and the terrace restaurant draw the city's creative crowd. It is the museum where Miami sees itself reflected: complicated, colorful, and proud.
What to experience
