ICA Miami is the city's temple of the new: contemporary art, always free, in a landmark building in the Design District. It shows the artists shaping right now, and it does it without charging a dollar at the door.

The story
ICA Miami opened in its Design District building in 2017, designed by the Spanish firm Aranguren & Gallegos. From the start, the museum committed to free admission, a radical statement in a luxury district, and to showing emerging and under-recognized artists alongside established names.
Its sculpture garden and bold facade made it an instant landmark of the district.
The vibe
ICA feels like the future arguing with the present: challenging exhibitions, a young and curious crowd, the sense that anything could be on the walls. The free admission keeps it democratic: students, artists, and the merely curious mix easily.
It is the perfect counterpoint to the luxury around it: art as a public good, in the middle of the city's most expensive streets.
What to experience
The rotating exhibitions and the sculpture garden. Combine with the Design District walk, Wynwood to the south, and Nader Museum nearby.
