Miami City Ballet is one of America's great ballet companies: founded in 1985, performing the Balanchine repertoire and beyond at the Adrienne Arsht Center and on tour. It put Miami on the dance world's map, and kept it there.

The story
Founded by Edward Villella, the company grew from a regional troupe into an internationally touring ensemble, known for its Balanchine heritage and its embrace of contemporary choreographers. Its school trains the next generation in Miami Beach.
The company's rise paralleled the city's own: ambitious, fast, and unwilling to be second-tier at anything.
The vibe
Ballet nights at the Arsht are among Miami's most elegant rituals: the company's precision, the live orchestra, the audience that spans abuelas and art students. The Nutcracker season is a city tradition.
